By volunteering in and around where ECOS is based in Columbus, Ohio, the organization helps to support their community and make it better in many ways. Some of these ways include designing and installing wheel chair ramps at community member's homes, volunteering with Engineering Explorers Post - these are students who may be interested in the engineering field and would like to find out more before coming to college, learning about and providing support toward various LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) projects, and teaching retired students the complicated art of navigating a computer. These activities allow ECOS members to develop their skills as engineers and practice them in a way which positively effects the community.

  ECOS is teaming up with AT&T, Habitat for Humanity and One Economy to help provide Internet access to low-income households
• Campus Steam Vent Redesign
  Working with OSU Facilities to redesign the large steam vents around campus into something artistic and useful
• College of Engineering Capstone Project Development
  Help develop year-long interdisciplinary senior design projects to be adopted in the official COE curriculum starting fall 2009
• Eastminster Child's Play and Learning Center
  ECOS helps evaluate a local childcare center and assess their structural needs.
• Engineering Explorers Post
  ECOS volunteers regularly with Engineering Explorers Post to help high school students explore the possiblity within Engineering
• LEED: Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design
  ECOS is partnering with Columbus Green Building Forum to help design and build a LEED certified house.
• Pedal-Powered Machines
  Designing and constructing pedal-powered machines in Guatemala and Columbus
• Westminster Computer Classes
  Teaching basic computing to our elders at the Westminster Retirement Community near campus.
• Wheelchair Ramps
  Project plans and details for various wheel chair ramps that ECOS has designed and built.
